    The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia, Hon Paskal A. B. Rois on Thursday, 4th November, 2021 paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Petroleum Commission of Ghana, Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr to further cement on-going discussions on the available investment opportunities in the country’s upstream oil and gas sector which Indonesia is willing to take advantage of.

    The courtesy call was a follow-up to an earlier two-hour virtual meeting held at the instance of the Indonesian Consulate in Accra on Thursday, 28th October, 2021 between officials of the Petroleum Commission as well as the leadership of one of Indonesia’s state-owned giant oil and gas company, PT. Pertamina.

    The two leaders used the opportunity to discuss among other things skills and technology transfer as well as other related opportunities Indonesia could make available for the benefit of the two sister nations.

    Hon. Paskal A. B. Rois and Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr also discussed plans to enable officials of the Commission to travel to Indonesia within the shortest period of time not only to visit Pertamina’s oil and gas facility sites but also affirm all discussions so far held in connection with getting investment from Indonesia into the Ghanaian oil and gas industry. The Honorary Consul used the occasion to appeal to the Petroleum Commission Boss to consider an educational partnership between the two sister nations, where experts and professionals from the Commission and its affiliates could be sent to the Pertamina University in Indonesia for further studies in oil and gas especially in welding and fabrication thereby ending up developing and expanding the local content in Ghana. This, Hon. Rois noted would go a long way to complement a similar already existing partnership the Commission has with Canada.

    The Honorary Consul informed the Petroleum Commission CEO of the Indonesia KNB Scholarship which many high school graduates and Ghanaian university graduates including those working in the petroleum industry could benefit from in order to pursue all manner of academic programmes, fully sponsored and paid for by the Indonesian government. He also disclosed that to go to Indonesia as a Ghanaian is visa-free, adding that this has resulted from the political and bi-lateral trade relations the two countries have enjoyed over the years.

    Mr. Ergert Faibille Jnr, for his part, was not only grateful for the visit of the Consul but also for the confidence Indonesia has in Ghana and her economy. He also thanked Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois for facilitating the earlier business virtual meeting between his outfit and Pertamina and also for his efforts so far at selling Ghana to Indonesia and the world at large. This, he observed would greatly improve upon the already existing bond of cordial relationship between the two sister countries.

    Mr. Faibille Jnr expressed interest in obtaining the educational opportunities from the Pertamina University in Indonesia to adequately train and prepare experts to support the development of Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

    The CEO said he looked forward for a more effective collaboration between the Petroleum Commission and the Indonesian Consulate in Accra so as to further deepen South-South co-operation and trade between Accra and Jakarta.

    Present at the meeting included the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Prince Benjamin Aboagye, the Manager, Geosciences Department of the Commission, Dr. Isaac A. Oppong as well as the Manager, Projects Evaluation and Economics, Mr. Ebenezer Harmah.

    INDONESIAN CONSULATE IN GHANA ENGAGES PT. PERTAMINA INDONESIA AND PETROLEUM COMMISSION, GHANA ON THE POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES IN THE UPSTREAM OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY IN GHANA

    On Thursday 28th October, 2021 The Indonesian Consulate in Ghana in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, facilitated a two-hour virtual meeting between officials of the Petroleum Commission of Ghana as well as the leadership of one of Indonesia’s State-Owned Oil Giants, PT. Pertamina.

    The major highlight of the meeting was a power-point presentation on the available opportunities in the country’s upstream oil and gas industry which Pertamina could take advantage of for real investment in the immediate future. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, Hon. Paskal A. B. Rois who moderated the entire virtual programme, noted that his expectation is to see Pertamina investing in the oil and gas sector of the Ghanaian economy.

    The zoom meeting, the first of its kind with Petroleum Commission since the Consulate began its operations in Accra, was joined by officials and participants from Indonesia, Nigeria and Ghana amongst others. The thirty nine (39) member team from Pertamina was led by Mr. Edi Karyanto, Senior Vice President Upstream Portfolio Co. Business Development & Portfolio, PT Pertamina ( Persero), while the seven (7) member team of officials of the Petroleum Commission was under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr.

    Speaking at the meeting, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to West Africa including Ghana and Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap lauded his Honorary Consul in Ghana, Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois for facilitating such a meeting which would enable Pertamina get a better understanding of the operations of the oil and gas sector in Ghana.

    According to him, since the establishment of the relationship between Indonesia and Ghana in 1959, Indonesia has recognized the importance of Ghana and her role played in the sub-Sahara region as one of the gateways to West Africa over the years.

    Ambassador H.E. Dr. Usra Hendra Harahapnoted that Ghana is Indonesia’s 9th largest trading partner in the sub-Sahara African region which is supported by the strategic port that the country is one of the five largest in West Africa. According to him, knowing that investment opportunities in Ghana are dependent on availability of raw materials, labour and potential market, he was confident that when Pertamina is given the opportunity to operate in the country’s energy space especially in the oil and gas sector, it would strengthen the already excellent trade relations between Indonesia and Ghana.

    H.E. Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap announced that his Embassy in Abuja is currently working out some preparatory arrangements for visits at the ministerial levels of the two countries, adding that it is the desire of Jakarta to see Ghana make a considerable progress in her potentials not only in oil and gas but also in construction, global trade and other sectors.

    The Senior Vice President Upstream Portfolio Co. Business Development & Portfolio, PT Pertamina ( Persero), Mr. Edi Karyanto,  noted that the West African sub-region remains a focus for their investment. He described Ghana as one of the prolific countries in Africa, adding that Indonesia’s State-Owned Oil giant, Pertamina is looking forward to taking advantage of such opportunities in Ghana’s oil exploration sector.

    The CEO of the Petroleum Commission of Ghana, Mr. Egbert Faibille Jnr. also traced what he described as the relationship between Ghana and Indonesia to 1959, recalling that Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Indonesia’s first President, Sukarno were contemporary leaders at the time that did a lot of work together during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) era.

    Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois noted that anyone in the oil and gas sector knows that all over the oil and gas producing jurisdictions excluding perhaps the USA, Iran and Saudi Arabia, almost every oil producing country in the world today uses the sharing contract agreement, an Indonesian model and initiative which has been replicated in several oil producing countries across the globe.

    The CEO said the meeting was not only an honour done the country but also a further cementation of the South-South co-operation within the framework of NAM that Ghana and Indonesia were committed to.

    Mr. Faibille was grateful to the Indonesia government and partners for the interest shown in Ghana and used the opportunity to formally extend an invitation to officials of Pertamina to visit Ghana within the first quarter of 2022. The invitation, he explained would enable Pertamina to visit the oil and gas sites themselves to acquaint and appraise themselves with the available oil and gas opportunities in the country.

    Mr. Ebenezer Harmah the manager, Economics and Projects Evaluation at the Petroleum Commission of Ghana, took the participants through a 40-minute presentation under the topic, ‘Petroleum Exploration Opportunities in the Upstream Oil and Gas Sector of Ghana’.
    Mr. Harmah covered the country’s oil exploration history, the available sedimentary basin, the state of the oil and gas industry as well as the legal and regulatory regime in operation. He also touched on the country’s fiscal regime as well as the available investment opportunities and the requirements for participation in Ghana’s upstream petroleum space. The Projects and Evaluation Manager disclosed that the country’s petroleum industry dates back to 1896, adding that the commercial discovery of the Jubilee Field in 2007 became a major breakthrough for Ghana. According to Mr. Harmah, twenty-nine (29) more discoveries have been made after 2007, further confirming that the country’s jurisdiction basin is highly prospective to investors.

    Mr. Ebenezer Harmah who did the presentation to the participants through the power-point medium, announced that the country has four sedimentary basins, three off-shore and one on-shore. He mentioned the off-shore fields as the Tano Cape Three Point Basin, Saltpond/Central Basin as well as the Accra-Keta or Eastern Basin, all of which cover an area of 62,000 sq.km and measured to 3500m water depth. According to him, it is the off-shore session which is very active.

    The Voltaian Basin which is the only on-shore field in the country, covers 103,400 sq.km, approximately forty (40) percent of the land mass of Ghana and the largest unexplored inland basin in the country. Mr. Harmah stated that the country’s national oil company, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is currently conducting a reconnaissance survey of the basin. He explained that about 1871km of 20 Seismic Data has been acquired, processed and interpreted, adding that preliminary results have identified structures of interest. According to Mr. Harmah, the initial work some on the basin shows that it is highly prospective hence the reconnaissance studies to prepare it for licensing in the nearest possible future.

    The Projects and Evaluation Manager assured the officials of Pertamina that the investment opportunities in Ghana’s petroleum sector are huge. According to him, there are large available acreages for direct negotiations. These, he said are Block 1 which is allocated to the GNPC and also Blocks 4,5 and 6 which are all available for direct negotiations with the Ministry of Energy.

    Mr. Harmah also announced that under the Farm- In opportunities, a number of contractors working in Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry are looking for partnerships with other reputable institutions like Pertamina to join them to undertake their explorations and develop such fields. Some of these contractors include Base Energy, Amni International, Springfield E & P, Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas, GOIL/GNPC, Aker and AGM.

    He assured Pertamina that Ghana does not only have impressive services, royalty and fiscal policy systems but also a vibrant regulatory framework that would inure to their benefits. Mr. Harmah disclosed that in 2022, the country seeks to launch a second licensing round which would have about 15 blocks available on offer at the Eastern side, which is the Accra-Keta basin. ‘About 8 blocks are expected to be awarded on competitive bidding while others will come under direct negotiations’, Mr. Harmah emphasized.

    Mr. Harmah stressed that Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector presents one of the best opportunities in the sub-region to investors both from below and above the ground factors. He mentioned the availability of three (3) FPSOs, offshore pipelines, sub-sea infrastructure, a well-defined Maritime Boundary as well as a stable business and political environment as positive attributes for investing in an economy like that of Ghana.

    The Vice President, Upstream Business Development, Sub Holding Upstream, PT Pertamina  Hulu Energy, Mr. Henricus Herwin, Mr. Pa Eddi described the presentation by the Petroleum Commission of Ghana as very comprehensive. He led a few questions posed to the Commission which were adequately and satisfactorily dealt with by Mr. Ebenezer Armah.

    The Minister Counsellor responsible for Political Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, Mr. Fahmi Aris Innayah was grateful to the Petroleum Commission for the available information and opportunitiesin the oil and gas sector of Ghana. He gave the assurance that Pertamina would also support every effort of government to realize the country’s energy needs to the fullest.

    PT Pertamina is an Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation based in Jakarta. It was created in August, 1968 by the merger of Pertamin and Permina. In 2020, the firm was the third-largest crude oil producer in Indonesia behind ExxonMobil’s Mobil Cepu Ltd. and US-based Chevron Pacific. Some of its key subsidiaries include pertamina EP, Pertamina Gas, pertamina geothermal Energy and Pertamina Drilling Services of Indonesia.

    On Friday 8th October 2021, The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois received in his office Mr. Agung Sinar Antjol the managing Director of Peace Indo- Ghana Ltd which is an Indonesian company here in Ghana. According to Mr. Agung he said initially, the company imported these products from Jakarta, Indonesia and sells them on the local Ghanaian markets. Later Messrs. Paul Addai and Leonard Eka Gunawan then decided to establish a factory in Ghana.

    Upon careful market opportunity analysis, in 1995 a manufacturing plant was set up in Ghana with the name Sinar Indo-Ghana Ltd. Medisoft Medicated Soap was the first to be produced locally. Today, apart from the Medisoft Medicated Soap, products such as, Kris toilet soaps, Kris hand and body lotions, B29 dishwash, B29 washing powders, B29 multi-purpose soaps are produced locally in Ghana under the license of Sinar Antjol Pty in Jakarta – Indonesia.

    The company now supplies several quality products ranging from soaps, detergents to personal care to their cherished customers across the country and beyond.
    Mr Agung has been in Ghana for over 15 years now and said he is very happy with the hospitality he has received from Ghanaians since his arrival. He also shared, Ghanaians are hard working people and his Marketing Manager and Sales Manager have been working with Peace Indo-Ghana Ltd for over 20 years now.

    BREAKING NEWS: Bali airport to start welcoming foreign travelers on Oct. 14

    Indonesia has set a specific date for the reopening of Bali to international travelers, as one of the country’s top officials announced this afternoon that the province’s airport will start welcoming foreign visitors on Oct. 14.

    The long-awaited announcement came from Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who stressed that foreign visitors must quarantine for a minimum of 8 days upon arrival, and are expected to show proof of hotel booking for this purpose, among other requirements.

    “There are several countries we will be open to: South Korea, China, Japan, [United Arab Emirates], and also New Zealand,” Luhut said during a virtual press conference.

    Further details have yet to be announced at this point, but as have been the case with previous major announcements regarding COVID-19 restrictions in Indonesia, they should be expected from other officials in the next few days.

    During the press conference, Luhut also reminded Indonesians to refrain from “excessive euphoria” amid the loosening of restrictions, as the country’s COVID-19 numbers continue to decline.

    On Wednesday , 22nd September 2021, Hon. Bintou Fabiola Zongo the Honorary Consul of the On Wednesday, 22nd September 2021, Hon. Bintou Fabiola Zongo, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Burkina Faso paid a familiarization visit to the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana to formally congratulate me on my appointment as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana.

    I also used the opportunity to congratulate my counterpart for having been appointed as well as the new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

    Our discussions as Sister Consuls were not only fruitful but also important for strengthening the already bond of friendship between the two countries on one hand and also our countries and the Republic of Indonesia on the other hand.

    The talks were aimed among other things at how we could work together to literally bring Indonesia to Ghana and Burkina Faso and the vice versa for the economic and socio-cultural benefits of the three countries. We also discussed how citizens of the two sister nations could take advantage of the KNB Scholarship scheme of Indonesia in 2022 to pursue fully-sponsored disciplines in that country in order to better their lot. We noted that Ghana and Burkina Faso had not benefited much from such a scholarship scheme in the past hence the need to put measures in place for the realization of this objective.

    As Honorary Consuls, we noted that we operate within similar environments with almost the same economic, social and cultural potentials and practices hence the need to work closely to exploit these potentials for the mutual benefit of all and sundry.

    We were also of the view that the time had come for us to foster much more closer collaboration amongst one another and our governments in the sub-region and beyond in order to realize the vision and goals of our peoples and countries in this 21st century of ours.

    President Joko widodo laid the first stone or groundbreaking for the PT HKML Battery Indonesia Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Factory, in Karawang Regency, West Java, Wednesday (15/09/2021) morning.

    “We should be grateful today to witness the groundbreaking of the construction of the first electric vehicle battery factory in Indonesia and even the first in Southeast Asia with an investment of USD 1.1 billion,” said the President in his remarks.

    He added that the construction of this factory is a manifestation of the seriousness of the government in the endorsement of the industry.

    The heyday of commodities, Jokowi said, is over.
    So we must dare to change the economic structure which was until now based on raw materials, to enter into industrialization in a strong industrial country based on the development of technological innovation.

    “Because it is the strategy of the large State companies, it is a question of getting out of the trap of exporting raw materials as soon as possible, of freeing oneself from dependence on material products. imported by accelerating the revitalization of the processing industry so that it can provide more economic added value, ”continued President Joko Widodo.

    Indonesia has the largest nickel reserves in the world, with enormous potential. The Head of State of the Republic of Indonesia said that within three to four years, with good management, Indonesia can become a major producer of finished nickel products such as lithium batteries. , electric batteries and electric vehicle batteries. .

    The government will also continue to roll out structural reforms to provide legal certainty and ease of licensing for business players and investors to expand their business in Indonesia.

    “The government is also open to various cooperative initiatives with friendly countries,” he said.

    In addition, the collaboration between Indonesian and South Korean enterprises should be strengthened, including the realization of investment cooperation in the realization of battery and electric vehicle industry.

    I had the opportunity and honor on Friday 10th September 2021 to meet an Indonesian Catholic Sister who has been in the country for the past thirty-three (33) years.
    Rev. Sr. Andrea Sri Supadmi was at the Consulate to extend her congratulations to me on my appointment as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana.

    Rev. Sr. Andrea Sri Supadmi a retired Laboratory Technician has contributed a lot to the health sector of the Ghanaian economy over the years. She is still with the Holy Spirit Sisters (SSPS) in Accra.

    During our fruitful interaction, she disclosed that there are other ten (10) Indonesian religious missionaries working in some of the Catholic Dioceses in the country. ‘There are seven (7) Reverend Fathers and six (6) Reverend Sisters bringing the total to thirteen (13)’, Rev. Sr. Andreas stated.  According her, these religious faithfuls are currently working in parts of the three (3) Northern Region, Affram Plains in the Eastern Region, Ho in the Volta Region as well as in Accra, adding that most of them are working in hospitals, clinics schools as well as in parishes of the Catholic Church.

    She hinted that they have plans to invite more Indonesian missionaries to come to Ghana to continue to help in the building of the country in various communities.

    She was indeed grateful to government and the people of Ghana for the warm reception and great support so far extended to them, saying Ghana is not only lovely but also peaceful.

    As Consul, I used the opportunity to thank Rev. Sr. Andreas and also congratulated her and her colleagues for their contributions to the development of the country. I also assured her of my personal support and that of the Consulate in ensuring that their stay in Ghana continues to be comfortable for them so that they can further share their rich experiences with the religious as well as the generality of the people of Ghana.

    I also thanked the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the host Catholic Dioceses and indeed all Ghanaians including the religious for the good care they have so far extended to these Indonesian religious missionaries. I was hopeful that the presence of the Consulate in Ghana would further cement the good bond of relationship between Ghana and Indonesia in the years ahead.

    The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Aflao and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fitti V at his palace at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.

    The courtesy call on the Traditional Ruler formed part of a working visit by the Consul to the area over the weekend where he was the Special Guest of Honour at the maiden Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Volta College Foundation, a youth development-oriented organization based in the Volta and Oti regions.

    The two leaders used the meeting not only to discuss the development of the Volta Region and beyond but also the several investment and tourism opportunities available in Indonesia for the benefit of Ghanaians.

    Hon. Rois disclosed that more than 10 million foreign tourists visit Indonesia each year to enjoy the country’s rich natural heritage, beaches and tropical forests full of wildlife, divers cultural traditions, culinary specialties and bustling cities. According to him, the Volta Region and Ghana for that matter can achieve the same feat. The Honorary Consul lauded Torgbui Amenya Fitti V for his great leadership qualities in addition to his continuous pursuance of the good of his subjects in his kingdom which spans from Ghana through Togo to Benin.

    The Paramount Chief who is also the Vice President of the African Council of Chiefs, pledged to use his position to promote the good relationship between Ghana and Indonesia for the benefit of his subjects in particular and the Volta Region as a whole.

    Torgbui Amenya Fitti V noted that one area the two countries could effectively collaborate for their mutual benefit is tourism, stressing the need for the Honorary Consul to use his Consulate to realize that vision for the two countries and their peoples.

    INDONESIAN CONSUL ADDRESSES 1ST ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF VOLTA COLLEGE FOUNDATION AT AFLAO

    The Honoray Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, Hon. Paskal A.B. Rois has noted that the current global socio-economic difficulties and dynamics have posed a greater challenge to today’s youth than ever before. The situation, he said has been aggravated in the last one-and-a-half years by the Coronavirus pandemic which has not only claimed millions of lives across the world but also collapsed businesses and landed thousands of the youth in unemployment situations. Mr. Rois made the observation at the maiden Annual General Meeting of the Volta College Foundation at Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region over the weekend.

    The College which is a youth organization of various professionals and individuals across the Volta and Oti Regions, began on 17th February, 2019 as a Fun Club with the major aim of bringing all Voltarians together to pursue a common vision of individual and collective improvement towards the betterment of the now two regions.

    The Honorary Consul urged the Volta College members not only to remain united, committed and focused on their vision and goals but also use their multiplicity of talents, skills and ideas to advance themselves as Voltarians and ultimately the Volta region as a whole.

    Hon. Rois touched on the huge tourism potentials of Indonesia which is the fourth largest country on the glove with a population of 260 million people. According to him, these tourism potentials and business opportunities can inure to the benefit of Ghana in general and the Volta Region in particular which also abounds in several tourist attractions.

    The Honorary Consul gave the assurance that his Consulate would collaborate with the Volta College, the Municipal and District Assemblies as well as the traditional authorities and the people to promote tourism in the Volta Region which forms part of the Volta College Foundation’s major aims and objectives as a youth development-oriented organization.

    Hon Rois also appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to devise additional innovative and sustainable policies to empower the youth to enable them give off their best to Mother Ghana. He admonished the VC members and their leadership to remain non-religious, non-tribal or ethnic and non-political in their forward march journey, emphasizing that they should see themselves as one people irrespective of their differences.

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Infinity Group of Companies based at Penyi, Mr. John Kwakuvi Hounlessodji lauded the VC members and their leaders for the initiative and vision to unite for the development of the Volta Region. According to him, the theme chosen for the maiden AGM, ‘Joining Forces Together Towards a Better Tomorrow for Voltarians; the Role of VC Members’, is timely, adding that the Foundation must leave a legacy for the future generations.

    The President and Founder of the Volta College, Mr. Barry Williams said since its establishment barely two years ago with about ten members, membership of the Foundation has increased to more than 600 people dotted not only in the Volta and Oti Regions but also in the Diaspora.

    He mentioned the acquisition of a permanent office space in Ho, registration of the College with the Registrar General’s Department in Accra, financial support to more than 20 members in funeral and marriage donations, clean-up exercises as well as the donation of assorted food items, toiletories and ten sets of WC facilities to the Kpandio Prisons as some of the modest achievements of the College.

    Mr. Williams announced that plans are far advanced to establish a vocational school in the region to bring back the love for artisanship among the youth. According to him, the architectural drawings for the school project are ready, awaiting a full discussion and approval at the next plenary session of the Foundation.

    The Paramount Chief of Aflao and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fitti V stressed the need for the VC members to always portray the rich culture, values and traditions of Voltarians anywhere they find themselves. According to him, the region has been lagging behind over the years, adding that the earlier there is a paradigm shift, the better it would be for the present and future generations.

    Torgbui Fitti V who is also the Vice President of the African Council of Chiefs, regretted that even though Aflao is an important international community on the globe because of its relationship with neighbouring Togo’s capital of Lome, it cannot be found on the tourism map of Ghana.

    He charged the members of the Foundation not to deviate from their core objectives and vision, warning that any attempt to allow politics to divide them would collapse their vision and the group.

    The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Hon. Elliot Edem Agbenorwu pledged his support to the College, adding that all hands should be on deck towards the development of the Volta Region.
