Indonesian Independence Day, locally known as “Hari Kemerdekaan” is celebrated annually on 17th of August to commemorate the declaration of independence in 1945.
The Proclamation of Independence read in the morning of Friday, 17th August 1945 by Sukarno, accompanied by Mohammad Hatta. The Red and White flag flown for the first time after the proclamation declared at Sukarno’s house.
Every year at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the President hosted the national flag hoisting ceremony to remember the important day for Indonesia. After the flag ceremony, the people of Indonesia around the globe usually celebrate the Independence Day by various games and competitions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic such games and competitions will not be held at large gatherings.
