Ladies and Gentlemen

It is with a tremendous feeling of privilege that I am standing here before you in The Republic of Benin, this wonderful country of visionaries, to deliver my inaugural and acceptance speech as the newly appointed Honorary Consul to Ghana.

My sincere and deep gratitude to His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, for the trust he has placed in me, to act in his name, for the well-being of the people of Indonesia resident in Ghana and for the growth and influence of the Republic of Indonesia.

My sincere thanks go to the Minster of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Indonesia, Her Excellency Retno Marsudi, for approving my candidature.

I am so deeply grateful to God and to the appointing authorities for the honour done me out of the final three applicants interviewed. Needless to say, I am the only one chosen; the only one proudly representing the interest of the Indonesian Government in my dear motherland, Ghana. My hearty appreciation also goes to Hon. Dr Raoul Ruben Njionou, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia to Cameroon, Fatherly business partner in Bzzworld and Freedom FaithNet Global (FFG) for spotting a potential in me, training, coaching me to have become a better version of myself today to handle this mantle.

For reasons common to all of us, and sincerely too, I cannot forget my beloved beautiful wife, who just gave birth to a bouncy baby boy and who has been given an Indonesian name, guess what the name, he is called Elolo Komla Onggy Hianata. And he is the future president of Ghana and the chairman of Ecowas.

So, I congratulate my wife Mrs. Gifty Etsa Rois for her prayers and support and as we all know behind every successful man there is a prayerful woman

To my sweet mother I have always said thank you, but today, permit me to formally say it, Madam Jospehine Kassah, for you and my late father, Mr Ben Codjo Buoh, thank you for bearing me forth and for the special care I have received till date.  Thank you to my senior sister, Charlotte Buoh, representing the Buoh-Alorsor Family from Akrofu Xeviwofe, and also, thank you to all my beloved children you are indeed source of my inspiration and to my predecessor, late Hon. FederickAluipui for the foundation he laid down before his call to eternity, thank you. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

          Indonesia-Ghana Relations/Cooperation

The cooperation between Indonesia and Ghana cannot be talked about without referring to the Bandung Conference in 1955 which was in fact the first Asian-African Conference to discuss peace and the role of the Third World in the Cold War, economic development, and decolonization to which Ghana, then Gold Coast, was a participant. Consequently, two years after Ghana’s independence, these two great nations entered into diplomatic relations that have brought so much benefit, to both parties, in the areas of trade, education, social culture among others. Not too long ago, the Indonesian government granted KNB scholarships in diverse fields of study to a good number of youth in my country for which I am very thankful.

Your Excellency, please be assured of my willingness to help build upon the existing bilateral cooperation between my country and the Republic of Indonesia. Please again, be assured that every interest of the Indonesian government in Ghana will be safeguarded under my leadership as Honorary Consul. Also, the protection of the Indonesian community in Ghana will, as it is, not be overlooked. It is in this vein that I have already created a WhatsApp platform to be in daily contact with them and collect data on each Indonesian citizen living in Ghana.

The Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic,

Your Excellency, as we are all aware, since the outbreak of the novel killer, millions of lives have been lost around the globe; economies are no longer robust as they used to be; Ghana is no exception. As a result of the damaging effects of this virus on every aspect of our nation, the government of Ghana is not relenting its fight against this canker warm. As at May 18, 2021, Ghana’s health service reported that the active case of Covid-19 in the country stands at 1,289 out of the 32,518 cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country last year. So far 89,835 cases have recovered and 783 persons have died, unfortunately.

It will also interest you to know, Your Excellency, that the government of the Republic of Ghana has rolled out the vaccination of its citizens against the virus and the first badge of those who were vaccinated are currently taking their second jab; as at May 7, 2021, 852,047 vaccines were already administered. Also, Ghana was the first country in Africa to receive the COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility in February 24, 2021.

According to the Finance Ministry of Ghana, the impact of the pandemic on the economy has been severe with the real GDP growth slowing to 0.4 percent in 2020 down from 6.5 percent in 2019, due to activities in the extractive industries taking a plunge where a collapse is recorded in hospitality and retail services, including the informal sector that employs especially female workers. Inflation spiked to double digits because of food price pressures before falling to 8.5 percent in April 2021.

Please, His Excellency, encourage me not to conclude this speech without acknowledging the presence of Madame Nenny the wife of His excellency Ambassador Dr. Harahap and also the great effort made by the entire staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Abuja as well as the travel to Benin from Nigeria by your energetic entourage to organize and live this ceremony that I particularly salute.

Kindly permit me to also thank Hon. Mrs Ouabi Modukpe Toukourou, Honorary Consul of The Republic of Indonesia to Benin for his key collaboration in organizing this inaugural event here. Also permit me to thank my good friend, Hon. Mr Armand Kossi Iroko, Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Togo for his strategic support, and my good friend Honorary Consul from Gabon who came all the way to Benin just to see me and interact with me and he did not come alone but he came with his beautiful wife.

Finally, Your Excellency, before I resume my seat, permit me to restate my gratitude for your confidence in me expressed through offering me this high position of Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Ghana as well as through personally taking this trip right from Abuja in Nigeria to Benin just for the occasion, my occasion. May God take us back safely to our various destinations.

REMARK BY AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA

H.E. DR. USRA HENDRA HARAHAP

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb,

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

First of all, in this auspicious occasion, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for your presence in Cotonou, Benin to fulfill my invitation for the inauguration ceremony of the new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Accra, Ghana in the midst of your tight schedule in your home country.

Allow me to congratulate Mr. Rois Paskal as the new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Accra, Ghana since the issuance of the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 15/M/2021 dated 9 April 2021. I believe with this appointment, Mr. Rois Paskal will assume his duty to support my mission as the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia.

I also believe that all the Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Indonesia in Benin, Niger, Cameroon, Togo, and Gabon will do the same in promoting our national interest and in protecting the national integrity of the Republic of Indonesia.

In this occasion, I would like to remind you all the importance of protecting the national integrity of the Republic of Indonesia, especially when we are currently facing challenges of separatism movement in West Papua. As we know, Papua is a part of the Indonesian territory.

We choose Cotonou – Benin and we gather here since we are aware that the Post-Cotonou Agreement was signed in this lovely country by African, Caribbean, Pacific countries and European Union. This agreement has been transformed from addressing trade and development issues to address more issues such as human rights, migration, and climate change.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I also would like to highlight your duties as the Honorary Consul in the areas of:

  • Services for and protection of Indonesian citizens and Indonesian legal entities
  • Enhancement of economic relation and cooperation, including the promotion of trade, tourism, investment, manpower, and services
  • Enhancement of social and cultural relations and cooperation, including social-cultural promotion
  • Observation and report on important issues or recent development
  • Intense coordination and/or meeting with the Indonesian Embassy
  • and always propose new initiatives to increase the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Indonesia with your home countries, respectively

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

To address those issues effectively, we need to be united and have a common perception. After this ceremony, I ask you to attend the coordination meeting to further discuss and take concrete steps in answering these matters.

Once again, I extend my sincere appreciation and to congratulate the new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia as well as success for all of us in the future endeavors.

Thank you.

Wassalamualaikum wr. Wb.
