LET US BOOST THE VOLUME OF TRADE BETWEEN INDONESIA AND GHANA – INDONESIAN AMBASSADOR TO GHANA

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Abuja with accreditation to Ghana, Dr Usra Hendra Harahap has stressed the need for Ghana and Indonesia to boost the volume of trade between each other. According to him, the two sister countries can take advantage of the long standing bi-lateral ties between them since the establishment of the beginning of diplomatic relations in 1959.

Dr. Harahap noted that such a move would go a long way to further reflect and improve the real capacity of bi-lateral trade co-operation between the two countries.
The Ambassador made the point in a brief address at a ceremony at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 where he presented his credentials to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

Ghana is one of the important partners to Indonesia in Africa. The country’s volume of trade is only about USD250 million, a situation the Ambassador noted could be drastically improved upon through further boost of volumes of trade between Indonesia and Ghana.
There are currently thirty-four (34) Indonesian Enterprises that have established business partnerships in Africa with a total investment portfolio of USD5 billion in value with the area of investment being in the mining industries, the oil and gas sector, the pharmaceutical space, agriculture, construction, energy, textiles as well as in the food and beverages industries.

The Ambassador assured President Akufo Addo that state-owned enterprises in the Republic of Indonesia are ready to support Ghana to develop many of its projects in the train and railway sector, construction of airports and power plants as well as in the housing sector. According to him, countries such as Senegal, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Niger amongst other have variously benefited from the expertise of Indonesia.
Dr. Harahap disclosed that Indonesia has one indigenous aerospace company that has core competences in aircraft design and development, adding that the company has been producing various types of aircraft including helicopter and drones that have been operating in countries such as Burkina Faso, Senegal and Gabon.

According to him, the country’s needs in the area of weapons and ammunition as well as vehicles for the military can be satisfied by Indonesia since the country has specialties in armoured vehicles, assault rifles and an extensive array of small-large-medium caliber of ammunition. The Ambassador therefore proposed a defense co-operation between the two countries in order to explore deeper opportunities in this sector as well.

Dr. Harahap recalled the historical relationship between the two countries leading to efforts culminating into the two countries becoming founders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He assured President Akufo Addo and Ghanaians that as Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Ghana, he would do everything within his power to maintain the utmost interests and aspirations of the two great peoples and countries. ‘I am ready to bring the highest level of co-operation between Indonesia and Ghana. I will also develop a new era of collaboration between our two sister countries’, the Ambassador emphasized.
