The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, H.E. Paskal A. B. Rois has led an Indonesian agribusiness investor to some cash-crop farms at Mafi Anfoe in the Central Tongu district of the Volta Region.

The Indonesian investor, a former Governor of Aceh as well as a Member of Parliament (MP) in Indonesia, Dr. Ir H. Abdullah Puteh MSi was accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to West Africa including Ghana in Abuja-Nigeria, H.E. Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap and wife Mrs. Umrotien Zunaeny Sahroni as well as the Counsellor for Political and Economic Affairs, Mr. Fahmi Aris Innayah.

The visit took the five-member team to a 1,200 acre plot of land belonging to a 39-year old farmer who is into mango, coconut, cassava, yam, dragon fruits and ginger cultivation. The youth farmer, Mr. Shine Aboetaka has not only created employment for eleven (11) people but also able to process only three (3) tonnes of cassava into chips out of the current available twenty (20) tonnage monthly market demand. Mr. Aboetaka has also created one of the biggest private dams in the area as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The dam serves the needs of about 5000 residents and farmers in eight (8) communities including Meyikpor, Yevuyiborkope and Kpoglikope.

The team also visited the Staise Farms of a 65-year old farmer who is into a 100-acre oil palm plantation which is currently at the fruiting stage. The two farmers have expressed grave interest in seeking for technological and skills expertise and know-how from Indonesia in order to improve their operations.

The visit of the Indonesian team to the farms was aimed among other things at exploring the possible available opportunities of investing in the agribusiness sector of the Volta Region in particular and Ghana as a whole. The investment, H.E. Rois indicated would not only strengthen the bi-lateral trade ties between Ghana and Indonesia but also open new chapters in the already existing relationship between the two countries.

Receiving the Indonesian delegation at the district capital at Adidome, District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon. Thomas Moore Zonyrah described the visit as very heartwarming, adding that he was privileged that his district had become the first in the country to receive such a high-powered Indonesian delegation.

He used the opportunity to assure the delegation not only of a litigation-free land and a peaceful environment for investors but also the availability of labour for any prospective investor.

According to the DCE, there are some five (5) investors already doing well in the agribusiness sub-sector of the district’s economy, adding that the Indonesian interest would be given all the needed support to succeed as well.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottorwodze described the visit of the Indonesian investor and delegation as timely, emphasizing that such a move would create job opportunities for the teaming youth of the constituency. He therefore pledged his support to the initiative and assured the members of the delegation of his commitment and that of the Assembly to ensure that such a dream becomes a reality.

Speaking to journalists after the two-hour tour, the Indonesian prospective businessman and MP, Honourable Dr. Ir H. Abdullah Puteh MSi noted that he was impressed about the farms visited, explaining that the opportunities are great and enormous to explore.

He also gave the assurance that the team would return for further deliberations in order to make the dream a reality.

The Indonesian Ambassador in-charge of Ghana and other West African countries, Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap was impressed about the trip, assuring that Indonesia has a lot to offer Ghana in its quest to improve the agribusiness sector of the Ghanaian economy. He emphasized the need for the two countries to continue to work closely with each other so as to promote trade and business as well as development in the other sectors of the country.

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, H.E. Paskal A. B. Rois appealed to the media in Ghana to educate the citizenry on the age-old ties between Indonesia and Ghana which dates back to Ghana’s independence era. According to him, Ghanaians use a lot of Indonesian products but they hardly know that such products are made from Indonesia. H.E. Rois mentioned the household indomi noodles, So Klin, Medi Soft soap, Procold Flu tablet and some writing pads as products used by Ghanaians. He emphasized that Ghana has a lot to benefit from Indonesia because Indonesia produces almost everything its citizens consume or use.
